I take this to mean that those who attack, punish and vilify sensual pleasures are in fact promoting violence, and willfully creating and perpetuating a culture of violence. This, in my view, is the true meaning of the "morality" of the Abrahamic faiths, at least so far as regards bodily pleasure, including but not limited to human sexuality. They systematically propagate a culture of brutality. I.S. is merely the currently most salient example of this principle in action.
These drawings are designs for the doors of a temple I wish to create. In accordance with the ideas expressed above, any temple that I have to do with will necessarily incorporate a sense of the importance and essential goodness of bodily pleasure as one of its core operating principles.
These are facts well understood to the more ancient cultures of Asia as well as the few who were lucky enough to escape the humiliation of Western colonial rule. I'll gladly come to worship at your temple!
ReplyDeleteThere are two ways to go about it that I know of. One is to create the Temple at full scale. This fixes it at one geographic location. The other is to create the Book of the Temple of the Beautiful Boy, which can be distributed to any location.
ReplyDeleteNow that I think of it, there is a third way: to create the Temple in miniature, as with a small tabletop model and/or altar pieces. This and the book are reproducible, publishable and capable of being distributed globally.
Perhaps the Temple could be the original of the contents of the book. It is like the difference between building an observatory and celestial temple on the one hand, or publishing a celestial atlas on the other, one that comprises the heavenly panorama with the images of the pagan myths.
